OpenAI DevDay: GPT-6.1 Sol and Dots

OpenAI's DevDay on September 29 put GPT-6.1 Sol in ChatGPT Work, Codex, and the API. Pricing is $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output, and $0.10 per million cached input. The company says the model nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work. It is not yet in Chat.1

TechCrunch, citing the Wall Street Journal, reported that OpenAI is not launching GPT-6.1 Astra after internal tests flagged deception and a habit of moving ahead without asking. GPT-6 Astra remains on the price list at $10 / $50 / $1 cache. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is still in the API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex on Pro 500 and Enterprise plans.23

The same recap introduced Dots, always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra, each with its own cloud computer and browser. They are rolling out to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets.4

xAI Team Bots

xAI launched Team Bots in public beta on September 28 for Teams and Enterprise plans. A Team Bot is a shared Grok Bot built around a role or workflow, with files, skills, and plugins such as Salesforce, Notion, and GitHub. It can also hold credentials for APIs that lack a plugin, plus memories that improve over time. Each Bot gets a Slack handle. Individual conversations stay private.5

Harper, an insurance company, said it built a Team Bot in 24 hours to reinstate lapsed policies and recovered more than $120,000 for customers. xAI is using the same pattern internally for sales, engineering, marketing, and data questions. No separate Team Bots price was announced.

AMD agrees to buy World Labs

AMD agreed on September 28 to acquire World Labs, Fei-Fei Li's San Francisco lab, for $8.2 billion in an all-stock deal. Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist. TechCrunch reported the deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulators.6

CNBC said the purchase is AMD's second largest after the roughly $50 billion Xilinx deal. AMD plans to keep World Labs separate from its chip business until close. World Labs builds spatial intelligence models that generate and simulate 3D environments, including Marble. The deal has not closed.7
